Getting Back to Who I Was
Meet Steven.
“I came to TB12 because I have a rare genetic pulmonary condition and get sick. A lot. For the past 4 years, I have been fighting severe infections that have caused me to be hospitalized. In 2019, I was in the hospital for over 40 days. The infections have caused collapsed lungs, severe decrease in pulmonary function, and a drastic loss of my quality of life.”
Originally, I was in pulmonary PT and regular PT but I did not find it helpful or challenging. I struggled to motivate myself in between infections, but at TB12 I’m actually pushing myself. I’m being pushed by my Body Coach and every part of it helps. So much.
I love to ski, it’s my favorite thing in the world, but because of my condition, it has been difficult. My goal through TB12 is to increase my physical performance level and make my body feel better. By working out at a much higher level than I ever was, I’m able to increase my lung capacity which helps me handle infections better and allows me to ski again!
In September, the results on my FEV1/FVC Ratio Pulmonary Lung Function Test showed that my lung capacity measured at 41%. As of this week, with the help of TB12 and my doctors at MGH, it measured at 81%. The highest it has ever been.
Prior to TB12, just walking up the stairs was a challenge. TB12 has reintroduced me to fitness – it has given me a baseline that I’ve never had before, and everything I’ve done here has been amazing. Next week I’m planning to get fully back into backcountry skiing and ski Mount Washington. I can’t put a price on the importance of TB12 in my life. Recovery is the piece of TB12 that i have taken to heart the most. I don’t go on any ski trips without my Vibrating Pliability Roller now, and it has allowed me to go further, feel better, and work harder.
I’m getting back to who I am and who I was.”
