Raised in Portland, Oregon, Colin spent his childhood exploring the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and cultivated a passion for adventure in the outdoors. He was recruited to swim at Yale University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Economics in 2006; not long after, Colin suffered a tragic accident and was severely burned in a fire while traveling. His injuries covered nearly 25% of his body, primarily damaging his legs and feet. Doctors warned him he might never walk again normally. He set himself a seemingly impossible goal: to complete a triathlon.
A mere 18-months after his accident, he placed first overall at the Chicago Triathlon. 6 years later, Colin would attempt to complete a prestigious mountaineering challenge – the Explorer’s Grand Slam – in world record time.
With grit and perseverance, Colin continues to shatter records and inspire explorers everywhere. He lives by the mantra, “Change your mindset, achieve anything” and recently started a non-profit, Beyond 7/2, with his wife Jenna – their mission is to inspire kids and their communities to live active, healthy lives and pursue their biggest dreams. We really enjoyed sitting down with Colin and hearing his story, what motivates him to keep going, and what’s next on his list of adventures. We hope you enjoy this episode too – let's go!
