He’s a professional golfer on the PGA Tour Latin America, and his focused approach to achieving his biggest goal – winning golf’s most prestigious tournament, The Masters – brought him to TB12 three years ago.
“I designed a plan and said ‘how am I gonna get to that green jacket? And what are physical things I can be doing right now just to get a little bit better?’,” says Jonathan. “I heard about the TB12 Method, and flew up (to Foxboro) and I fell in love with it.”
Life as a professional golfer is mentally and physically demanding, and Jonathan recognized that he would need to keep his body healthy and performing at it’s best in order to make a career for himself.
"When you’re travelling and playing in tournaments every Thursday through Sunday, you can’t afford to get injured and miss time. I wanted to be able to work as hard as I can work, and not ever have to worry about my body,” says Jonathan. “Your body shouldn’t dictate what you do, you should be able to tell your body what to do.”
The repetitive nature of the golf swing makes golfers more susceptible to tightness and injury over time – but it also allows for highly intentional, functional training. Through his pliability work and functional TB12 training, Jonathan has taken proactive steps to keep his muscles healthy and prepare his body for the physical toll of high level golf.
After struggling with pain and tightness in his psoas and low back for the first few years of his professional career, Jonathan found relief quickly thanks to TB12. He and his Body Coach worked intentionally to improve his pliability in his psoas and reduce the load on his low back during the swing by strengthening his glutes and rotational core. For Jonathan, the concept of training at “the speed of sport”, was a game changer.
“It allows my mind to understand that I’m doing this rotational motion at the same speed at which I swing a golf club,” says Johnathan. Jonathan knows he has a long journey ahead of him as he pursues his golf dreams, but he has the perspective and mindset necessary to get there. With TB12 in his corner, he’ll be able to play pain-free and focus on doing what he can to get better every day.
“Every single day, when I put my head down at night, I want to know that I got 1% better,” says Johnathan. “I want to get a little bit better every day, and then one day I’ll wake up and have that Green Jacket.”
